Waimana Institute Garden Circle

The monthly meeting of the Wai>-maan-Nukuh'ou W.I. gardening circle was held at Mrs Allan Macdonald’s home, Waimana, last Tuesday afternoon. The attendance was fair, several members sent apologies for absence. Mrs M. King presided in Mrs Wylde’s absence. Mrs Hewitt read the report of the past year’s activity and presented the balance sheet, both being adopted. Mrs M. King was elected president and Mrs N. Potter secretary for the ensuing year. Mrs Hewitt gave an interesting reading on the growing of roses, and members then had a general discussion on the subject. A competition, arranged by Mrs Macdonald, word building, from the word “Forget-Me-Not,” was won by Mrs Hewitt, with Mrs Looney and Mrs Woolfield equal 2. The March meeting is to be held at Mrs S. Eagle’s home. Mrs Woolfield kindly acted as .judge for the day’s competitions, which resulted:— Best vegetable: Mrs M. King 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs S. Eagle 3. Best flower: Mrs S. Eagle 1, Mrs M. King 2, Mrs Hewitt 3. Tall vase of flowers for effect: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs Whiteman 2, Mrs Eagle 3. After a 'delicious afternoon tea, members strolled around the neatly kept garden, which was quite bright with asters and marigolds'. Mrs King then thanked the judge, the hostesses, and Mrs Macdonald for the pleasant afternoon.
