AN APOLOGY

We regret that the recent issues of the Beacon have been late off the press. On Monday, when the printing was only half completed, a serious breakdown occurred in the press itself. Monday’s issue was completed on a jobbing machine and delivered that night and, m some country areas, next morning. Meanwhile, our own team, with an engineer, turned their full attention to the repair task on the big machine, working right through Tuesday night and all day Wednesday and yesterday. Though it finally proved impossible to issue a paper on Wednesday, our readers and advertisers may be assured it is not for want of effort on our part. Everything that was humanly possible was done to produce it. It is too soon to say that there will not be further minor holdups, and we would ask the public to be patient with us if the service leaves something to be desired for a little while.

In particular we seek the cooperation of advertisers. It has been impossible in the last few days to replace display advertisements. We regret that we have been unable to carry out advertisers’ instructions as we should have liked to have done, and ask that contract advertisers will refrain from handing in all but the most urgent changes of copy for the next week.
