Women’s Institute Meeting At Waimana Is Well Attended

The attendance was quite good at the January meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Women’s Institute. Mrs R. Looney presided. After the “Ode to Friendship” Mrs Woolfield read the Aspirations. Mrs Looney read an interesting letter from the Federation President. Mrs K. Armstrong. Mrs Looney gave a report on the Group meeting, which was held in Opotiki recently. The Drama Circle members, Mrs Hewitt and Miss A. White, presented a short sketch entitled “Where’s Your Father.” It was a humorous chit and was enthusiastically received. Mrs Grant Mitchell sang a song “Garden of Happiness.” Nominations were received for the new committee, Mrs Hewitt being nominated president un-oppos-ed. The day’s competitions were well entered. Mrs John Addison and Mrs McConnel acted as judges. The prize winners were: — Best single flower: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs H. Bell 3, Mrs White Snr. 3. Best multiple flower: Miss June Stevens 1, Mrs H. Bell 2, Mrs White Snr. 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs F. Bell 2, Mrs Whiteman 3. Plums: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs I. Savage 2, Mrs Bell 3. The Golden Thread was given by Mrs G. Mitchell, who read an interesting paper on Sir Peter Buck.
