Has Good Win P. and T. had a decided win over Edgecumbe by one innings and nine wickets and 18 runs in a cricket match for the Collins Shield on Sunday. Conditions were anything but good and the ground was very slippery. Edgecumbe batted first, making 37 runs, J. Rivett took 5 wickets for 16 runs, R. Cleland 1 for 15 and P. Carter 3 for 5. The P. and T. bowling was too strong for the Edgecumbe batsmen. Many Batsmen Retire In R.S.A. Game Cricket not of a particularly high standard was played at the Whakatane R.S.A.’s cricket day held at the Domain on Saturday. Several batsmen retired and it is believed that one or two were bowled although this could not be verified by officials. When approached they were unable to spare the time as they wtere busily engaged in partaking of refreshment. Players, there were several in either team, were required to bowl two overs, which probably accounts for the amazing number of wickets that were not taken. Two teams were selected, one representing the President and the other the vicepresident. The president won by one run. The President made 88 (A. Knights 23 retired, J. McKenzie 14 retired, and 47 (T. C. Smith 23 retired). The vice-president made 75 (L. Roach and M. Bell 13 each retired, A. E. Smith 12 retired and 59 (G. Kemp 16, C. Woodham 11). The match was attended by returned servicemen from all over the district, although a number could not be present because of other events that wfere on th* same day.
