Whakatane Handles Most Tonnage Of Bay Of Plenty Ports
Whakatane harbour has handled more vessels during the 11 months ended November, 1948 than either Tauranga or Opotiki, as is shown in the Bay of Plenty Port statistics presented at Friday’s meeting of the Whakatane Harbour Board. In the total manifest tonnage Whakatane handled 31,432 tons, more than that handled by both Opotiki and Tauranga combined. Complete details are:— Whakatgne: No. of vessels 119, net tonnage i 0.049, total manifest tonnage 31,432. Tauranga: No. of vessels 86 (2 overseas), net tonnage. 11,312, total manifest tonnage 14,614. Opotiki: No. of vessel. 50, net tonnage 5,081, total manifest tonnage 10,839.
