DARING ROBBERY AT TANEATUA: TWO MAIL BAGS OPENED

Two bags of parcel mail were slashed open and had their contents tampered with in a Road. Services freight truck at Taneatua oh Saturday night. One. parcels bag from Whakatane to; Whakatane arrived empty, and a bag of parcels from Auckland had also been rifled, but it has not been possible yet to check the extent of the loss. Mr P. Thompson drove the truck: over from Whakatane to the Taneatua station, picked up 62 mail receptacles altogether. Then, s iss. usual on that run, he stopped at Taneatua for a meal, about the time the picture theatre closed. It is believed the theft must have taken place while the truck was parked outside the restaurant, which is in Taneatua’s main street. Presumably the thief crawled under the tarpaulin, cut the bags open and sneaked away with the parcels.
