Progress Of National Savings Campaign

Of the 352 National Savings quota towns in the pominion 340 exceeded their targets for the week ended January 29. With two months of the current financial year to go, 305 towns have fulfilled their objectives for the year. Investments since April 1, 1948, amount to £6,250,000, which is £1,500,000 in excess of New Zealand’s full annual quota. 18,000 National Savings accounts have been opened for the year to date. Investments in the Thames postal district (including Whakatane) for the current campaign amount to £173,000, nearly £50,000 in excess of the annual quota. Eighteen of the 20 quota towns in the Thames district have exceeded their targets and it is confidently expected that the remaining two will do so shortly. Since April 1 last 500 National Savings accounts have been opened in the Thames district and of these Thames itself is responsible for 200.
