Area’s Four Best Men: Picked In preparation for the Bay of Plenty Tennis Association’s senior tournament on March 6, Whakata....e and Rangitaiki men players took part in elimination matches over the week-end to select four players to represent this area against representatives from Tauranga, Rotorua and Opotiki. The four selected were R. Lees, I. Wylds, M. Lees and E. Wilson. Wylds went on to win the final against M. Lees. Details:— M. Lees beat B. Print 6/0, 6/1; P. Bryers beat D. Stewart 6/2, 6/0; I. Final: Wylds beat Lees 2/6, 6/2, 9/7. Bay Team To Play Waikato Following is the Bay of Plenty tennis team to play Waikato next Sunday at Rotorua:— Men: I. Wylds, Whakatane, R. Lees, Rangitaiki, J. Aitkenhead, Tauranga, M. Lees, Rangitaiki, J. Nicholls, Tauranga and G. Vugler, Rotorua. * Women: Mrs Lee, Rotorua, Miss Larsen, Rotorua, Mrs Garlick, Rotorua, Mrs Dean, Tauranga, Miss Hall, Whakatane, Miss Brown, Tauranga. This match should prove particularly interesting, because the Waikato team is said to be a strong one. including in the men three Roach brothers, I. Easton and Wakefi -Id, all well-known names in big tennis. Club Championships The Whakatane Tennis Club championships and handicaps in singles, doubles and. combines are to be held shortly. All entries can be made at the pavilion during this week-end.
