Disapproval At The Omission Of Bay Of Plenty Voiced
Strong disapproval of the omission of the Bay of Plenty from the itinerary of the visiting Australian tennis team to New Zealand, was expressed by the president, Mr P. R. Bryers, Whakatane, at a meeting of the executive of the Bay of Plenty Lawn Tennis Association at Whakatane.
He said that the Bay of Plenty had been offered a visit by the New Zealand Association if £4O for expenses could be guaranteed. “We immediately guaranteed the £40,” he added, “but heard nothing more until the official itinerary was published in the press, the Bay being omitted.” It was decided that a strongly worded letter be sent to the New Zealand Association protesting at the treatment that had been meted out to the Bay of Plenty. A request is to be made that the Bay be granted priority in the next international visit by tennis players.
