NO PETROL FOR TENNIS TEAMS: PLENTY FOR RUGBY

Although petrol is granted to travelling football teams none is to be made available to tennis teams, it was reported by the vice-president, Mr F. J. Prichard, at a meeting of the executive of the Bay of Plenty Tennis Association at Whakatane. Mr Prichard said that at a meeting of the council of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association delegates had been advised that the Controller had refused to release petrol for tennis teams on the grounds that tennis was not a team game, in contrast to football. The council had decided to challenge this and intends to carry the matter further.
