Coal Replaces Whisky.

In these days of scarcities, one bottle of whisky is looked upon as an acquisition ; a case of one dozen bottles of whisky is almost worth its weight in gold. The shock of a steward at a club in Gisborne the other day can be imagined when he opened a case of whisky, only to find that it contained, instead of one dozen bottles of a well-known Scotch brand, cardboard cartons full of small lumps of coal. The wires around the case were intact, and nothing appeared to be out of place before the case iwas opened. Whether the case was tampered wish on the way from Scotland to New Zealand or between the unloading port and Gisborne is not known.
