Need For Standard Thread
The saving of perhaps billions of dollars would have been possible during the last war if the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom had agreed earlier on a unified thread for nuts and bolts, said General McNaughton, formerly of the Canadian Army. He added that during the war every Canadian brigade had to carry two special trucks loaded with mechanical parts because British nuts and bolts had a different thread from that in the United States equipment.
