The Taranaki Gate Travels
A Christchurch farmer has been responsible for the introduction into an English farming district of a well known New Zealand amenity—the Taranaki gate. The New Zealander is at present in England, where he plans to stay for 18 months or so for experience of English farming. He was recently required to rebuild a gate. He saw the usefulness of a Taranaki gate in the situation, and built one. His employer was very taken with the novelty, though a little inclined to question its departure from all English ideas on gates. His neighbours were equally interested, and the gate has been inspected by numbers of them, some having copied it on their own farms. SOME COW A Jersey-Friesian crossbred cow owned by Mr D. Robson, Ardgowan, North Otago, has set a record by giving birth to eight calves in four years, including triplets. All have survived.
