PROGRESS OF WORK OPOTIKI-WAIOTAHI NEXT SUMMER With the sealing of a curve near Mill Stream Bridge on the OpotikiGisborne State Highway , the first portion of the work on the road has been completed, except that it has not been possible to apply the usual third coat. The Public Works Department has also sealed portion of the road branching off at the Opotiki Dairy on behalf of the County Council, to stop the dust nuisance. The contract for laying rock on the Opotiki-Waiotahi section of the Opotiki-Taneatua State Highway was commenced a. few days ago by a Whakatane firm of contractors who are employing a loader dozer to load the trucks. The work is proceeding at a good rate and it is expected that it will ‘take three months to complete thet rock laying as far as the Waiotahi bridge. The new formation will have the opportunity of consolidating during the winter months and it is expected that the road will be sealed during the following summer.
