Record Season On Farms Expected For Production Year
This season will probably be a record one for farmers in the Bay of Plenty, according to Mr E. R. Marryatt, Fields Instructor for the Department of Agriculture at Whakatane. Pastures have come away very thickly and there is no lack of -feed. He said that large crops of hay had been saved and although this year may have been slightly wetter than previous years, with some hay being lost, farmers generally have been fortunate in their harvesting..
Good crops of vegetables have been grown although potatoes and tomatoes in some cases, have been struck by blight. Maize and other grains are now beginning to come away after a shaky start. Mr Marryatt said that farms were now doing very well. Production was well up and he thought a record may be made this year. It had been a perfect season for moisture.
