Raining—Campers Leaving Several campers have been leaving the camp grounds at Ohope during the last few days because of the wet weather. One family of campers left in disgust on Friday as part of their camp ground was under water. School To Have Vacuum Cleaner The Whakatane District High School is to have a vacuum cleaner. This was decided at a meeting of the school committee on Thursday night. It will probably be the largest vacuum cleaner in Whakatane, costing about £lB9. Half of this sum was raised by the school staff committee and the remainder subsidised by the Education Board. Delivery of it is expected within the next few months. Wainui Y.F.C. There was a good attendance of members at the Wainui Y.F.C. monthly meeting recently. The growing young club was further strengthened by the enrolment of three new members, bringing the total membership to 22. Jn the programme which was. drawn up for the coming year, the numerous field days and lectures to be held should prove most interesting and beneficial to members. Large Wild Boar A boar, which has long been a menace to sheep farms in the Te Puke district, was shot during the week-end by Mr R. J. Sorrenson of Welcome Bay, on the property of Mr G. Muir, No. 3 Road, Te Puke. Mr Sorrenson’s party, consisting of Messrs Sorrenson, •T. Cairns, T. Kahotea and three Auckland visitors, trailed the boar all day, when it was finally bailed by the dogs and shot. The boar which weighed over 3001b5., possessed a formidable pair of tusks and was in excellent condition. Tricky Driving After an unsuccessful attempt to pull a caravan up Hillcrest with a baby car, a disillusioned driver on Friday found himself faced with the tricky task of backing down the half of the hill his puny vehicle had managed to struggle up. At one stage of the piece, with the caravan angled across the road, about 14 cars waited impatiently for the sweating, blushing unfortunate to make way for them. One can imagine his sigh of' relief on clearing the last' bend and finding himself again on the level. Anti-Fly Squad If the citizens of Lewisham, London, should be pestered with flies this summer, they, will have an easy remedy. All they will have to do is to ring up the Town Tall, and an anti-fly squad of two men will came on a motor-cycle and sidecar, armed with spraying and dusting equipment, D.D.T. and other insecticides. This is a praiseworthy experiment on the part of the Lewisham Borough Council in the interests of public health, for flies are carriers of harmful germs and the pests must be attacked with full vigour.
