CHILDREN’S FANCY DRESS BALL AND CHRISTMAS PARTY

The annual school breaking-up was held in the Waimana Hall recently. There was a •very.large attendance of parents and pupils and all seerhed to spend a most pleasant evening. The children had the floor until supper time for folk dancing and dances. The Grand March was very well done by the children, showing their fancy costumes to advantage. A beautiful Christmas tree, laden with gifts and lovely decorations, was prominent on the stage and when Father Christmas arrived, cheers from the children rang around the hall.

After the disposal of the gifts, Mr Potter, headmaster, welcomed all present. He regretted that the Chairman was not present as he was in hospital, and wished him a speedy recovery to health. He read a letter received from Mr Wardlaw, wishing all a happy evening and the function a great success. Mr Potter thanked the assistant teachers, Miss Savage and Miss Betty Wardlaw, and Mrs Potter for their great help during the year and in training the children for functions. He also thanked the members of the school committee for their co-opera-tion during the past year, and those who helped in the collecting, of funds for school, £SB being collected. Mr Potter presented school leaving certificates to John Boynton, Alf Boynton, Rex Eagle, Richard Henderson, Tumoana Otakana, Gordon* Wardlaw, Annette Henderson, Valerie Linwood, Tuna Hei Hei, Marlene Wardlaw. Good attendance certificates were presented to the following pupils who had not lost more than 5h days at school during the year: Lionel Boynton, Bella Huriwai, Sydney Falkner, lan McConnell, Lily Putikawa, Kevin Such' ’Lynette' Hampton, Valerie Linwood. Mr Potter then called on Mr N. Eagle to present the ribbons and cups won by pupils on Calf Club day. Supper was then served, after which dancing continued until midnight.
