All patients who could be moved were shifted into one big ward where the concert, the same as that given in the Grand Theatre, 'was presented, by the children in. exact detail. Children On Horses About 147 children from the Waikato are coming on horses to camp at Ohope on January 5. They will remain until January 9 when they will return home via Pukehina, Morea, and Ngongotaha where the remainder of the journey will be by truck. The trip is a Pony Club excursion. Post Office Holidays A close holiday will be observed by the postal and money order branches of the Pest Office on December 25, 27,’28 and January 1, 3 and 4. Those same holidays will be observed by the Telegraph branch, but urgent telegrams may be handed in at the telephone exchange, where continuous service will be maintained. j ; / ' , County Dog Registrations The following are the dog registration fees in the Whakatane County for 1949. Dogs kept solely for destroying rabbits and dogs kept for the herding of sheep or cattle (maximum of three dogs) 3/-; any other dog 10/-. The cost of arecoline hydrobromide will cost 1/- extra. Mr A. Carling has been appointed dog tax collector. ® Taxi Licence Granted The application of Mr D. Takao for a tax cab driver’s licence to operate a taxi business at Waimana I has been approved by the Whakatane County Council, subject to his passing driving and medical tests satisfactorily, it was stated at the monthly meeting of the council on Monday. An' application for a licence from a woman was also received but was declined. Building Hit By Truck Early Wednesday evening a heavy truck driven by Mr Harawira crashed into the back of Mac Lean Motors' building just beside the workshop door. The plastic wall of the building bore eloquent evidence of the • force of the impact, but the truck '• was not badly damaged. Cuts requiring. medical attention were received by Mr Harawira, who 'lost / control of the truck trying to close a door that had flown open. Fortunately, his injuries were not serious.
