INSTALLATION OF NEW IYZ RADIO TRANSMITTER

The provision of a temporary supply of electricity to facilitate the construction of - the new Bay of Plenty broadcasting station IYZ at Paengaroa has been approved *by the Tauranga Electric Power Board. Information that the installation of the transmitter was commenced last week was contained in a letter to the Board from the district engineer of the Broadcasting Service, Mr J. H. Gault, which requested the power for operating lighting and soldering equipment. Concerning the supply of power, the board’s engineer, Mr J. R. Bongard, estimates the station would require in the vicinity of 250,000 units and he had informed the broadcasting service that such a large quantity would not be available from the board’s supply. They would have to arrange for an allocation. The quantity required would be sufficient to supply 50 all-electric houses commented the secretary, Mr J. R. Chambers. The engineer’s suggestion to give a temporary supply, which could be increased when an allocation came through, received the support of the board. ■
