Whakatane Club’s Games

Games were continued on Saturday by the Whakatane Bowling Club in ideal weather. The greens were fast with play very keen. Results:— Smith Stars: C. H. White, Coates, Pearson, Smoljan 19 (holders) v Breckon, Thompson, Hayward, Stewart 18. Club Games: Martin, Head, Sims, Howat 23 v Atkinson, Campbell, Hollis, Loane 11; Weeber, G. Howat, King 19 v Richardson, Latta, Anderson 18; Drayson, Hay, McCarthy, Burgess 18 v Jarrett, Cockerell, Oswald 28; R. F. Smith, Shaw, Dixon 18 v Cantrell, Shapley, Mclsaac 30; W. Smith, Johnson, Brube, Caisley 23 v Christensen, Rutherford, Sloane McLeod 15; R. Wilson, Grant, Henderson 20 v Carling, A. White, Mcr Kenzie 17. The semi-final and the final of the handicap pairs were played on Saturday. Results:— Semi-final: Compton and Good (s) defeated Bullot and Oswald (s); Cockerell and Dixon (s) defeated Thompson and Warner (s). Final: Cockerell and Dixon defeated Compton and Good. Picnic Tournament From a large field Of entries only two teams qualified for the finals, these being Henderson’s team in A section and Burgess’ team in B section. In the play-off, Henderson’s team were the winners. The teams were: E. Bullot, L. King, G. Oswald, W. Henderson (s) (winners); A. Atkinson, J. Murphy, W. Howat, A. Burgess (s) (runners-up).
