Unofficial Record At Whakatane An unofficial new course record was established at the Whakatane Golf Links on Saturday by Mr R. H. Glading, former New Zealand open golf champion. Mr Gfading, who has been paying a short visit to Whakatane, went round in 08,. four under par and is the first player to break 70 on the course. On Sunday he was followed by a fairly large gallery and 'he went the round in 71. Commenting on the state of the course he said that with about 300 to 400 yards added on it could be brought up to championship standard. He considered it the best country course he had played on in New Zealand and with a bit more improvement could be made to compare favourably with the best' sandy courses in Australia. He found the greens in very good condition, being very true to putt on. * Mr Glading said he hoped to return'' to Whakatane to compete in the Labour Day Tournament next year. , ,'
