Harbour Improved

The Whakatane harbour has improved considerably from the state it was in last year, said Mr H. Brabant at a meeting of the Whakatane Harbour Board on Friday. Ships now have very little difficulty in working the bar and several vessels have even entered the harbour at night with full loads. They would not have done that a year or two ago, before the rocks had been blasted, he added. The 'work carried out by the Navy in rock demolition has been a complete success, stated the consulting engineer, Mr C. H. Brebner? in his report. In two cases double charges were fired, completely destroying the rocks and another single shot was also very successful.
