Housing Tenancies For Ex-Servicemen
. During October a further 184 State housing tenancies were allocated under the system whereby at least half of all newly vacant or newly built State rental houses and flats go to ex-servicemen. This brought the total number so far allocated until the end of that month to 9342. Rehabilitation housing committees in each centre make the allocations on a basis of relative urgency. Allocations to ex-servicemen in the various districts are given below, those for October being shown in parentheses:— Auckland-North Auckland '2704 (55), Waikato-Bay of Plenty 734 (10), Hawkes Bay-Poverty Bay 433 (10), Taranaki 271 (2), Wellington, including Manawatu, Wanganui, Wairarapa and Hutt Valley 3237 (60), Nelson-Marlborough-Westland 236 (6), Canterbury Province 1016 (29), Otago Province 509 (9), Southland 202 (3); totals 9342 (184).
