Whakatane Branch Of Nurses’ Assn. Eschews Compulsory Unionism

The annual meeting of the Wha--katane branch of- the Trained Nurses’ Association was held in St John Ambulance rooms on Satur-* day. After lunch, which was served by the members, the business meeting was held, Miss North in. the chair. * The finances are satisfactory. The branch views with alarm the possibility of the Government’s insisting on the formation of a Nurses’ Union. Mrs Sumner suggested the Association consider the services of sl solicitor, and Mrs Le Lievre pro--! posed that one be asked Ito act an honary capacity. The following donations were given: £2 2s each to the Red Cross: Society, Plunket Society and Crippled Children’s Fund; £lO 10s to the Nurses-’ Memorial Fund; £lO 10s to the St John Ambulance Association. Election of Council: President, Miss E. Armstrong; secretary, Sister Benge; treasurer, Mrs Smith; vicepresidents, Mrs F. Sumner, Miss North; committee, Mesdames Butler, ■Hawken, Le Lievre, Misses Miller and Olliver. The' meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the auditor, Mr Warren, the St John Ambulance Association for the free use of their rooms, and the outgoing Council.
