Waimana W.I. Garden Circle Meeting
The monthly meeting of the Waimana W.I. Gardening Circle was well attended and was' held*, at Mrs Reuben Looney’s home. Mrs Wylde presided. / Mrs Hewitt read a'most interesting paper on general work in the garden at this time of the' year arid members then joined in a general discussion. , A memory test competition arranged by Mrs, Looney, was won. , by Mrs Hewitt/ with Mrs Mitchell second. A tray ’containing thirty \ different flowers was shown to members for several minutes and then taken away, members having to memorise as many as possible in a given time. The next competition was a treasure hunt for a piece of gold lace tied on something in the garden. After a long search, Mrs Steve Eagle found it tied around a hen’s neck. The hen, quietly sitting on a nest of eggs in a corner, was quite unconcerned. The day’s competitions were judged by Mrs M. King and Mrs Potter. Results:— 1 • , - Best flower: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs Wylde 2, Mi's Hughes 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Hewitt 1,, Mrs J. Mitchell 2, Mrs Looney 3. Bowl of roses: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs J. Mitchell 2. After afternoon tea members viewed the neat and well kept garden, which was quite bright with, flowers, j w " ' Mrs Wylde thanked Mrs' Looney* and the hostesses for the most plea-# sant afternoon.
