County Men Build Mechanical Loader
As a Successful means of overcoming the labour shortage a mechanical loader (designed by the Egmont County Engineer, Mr R. S. Martin) and built under his supervision at the County depot by the plant foreman Mr D. Coltart, assisted by the blacksmith, Mr H. Walker) commenced full operations last week. » A. tractor was converted for the purpose gnd the loader, which is strongly constructed and well balanced, is very manoeuverable and capable: of loading about 3-8 yard of metal or sand at each bite, or approximately the equivalent of four men loading. Practically the only parts not manufactured by the county staff were the steel rope and rubber belts, and the loader was completed in three weeks.
