GOOD ENTRIES IN MANAWAHE CALF CLUB’S SHOW
Last year the Manawahe School Calf Club Show had to be abandoned, firstly on account of atrocious weather and later through the closing of schools due to the Polio epidemic. This time, however, the wea : ther seemed determined to atone for its previous misbehaviour and favoured with a pleasant, sunny day. A very successful Show was held with entries totalling 13 calves, nine yearlings and seven lambs, an increase on previous years. Judging of calves and yearlings was ably conducted by Messrs A. H. Adams and S. G. Ker while' Mr W. Bowes similarly judged the lambs. In addition to the actual judging, these gentlemen explained to the spectators and children why the awards were made to certain animals and what were the good and bad points of the various entrants. At the conclusion of the judging, the winning animals were photographed with their proud owners, and the Chairman of the School Committee, Mr W. D. Jones, thanked the judges for their assistance. The prizes and certificates were then presented.
