Children Display Much Talent For Whakatane Concert
Stage talent may be found anywhere throughout the country. In the cities, the towns and the small country villages there is talent, but unless uncovered it is liable to'remain unseen. For that reason local talent quests are of value, especially among children. Here in Whakatane we don’t bpld any such quests, and when a show is put on by local children there is often some surprise at the ability of the performers. For this reason the concert to be presented by the boys and girls of the Young New Zealanders’ Club at the Grand Theatre, Whakatane, next Tuesday is of much interest. First conceived by the manager of the theatre, Mr A. R. Chapman, it has grown to something big and he has had the children practising hard now for some months. They are all from Whakatane and much hitherto hidden talent has been revealed. The programme consists of the concert, lasting about an hour, followed by a film. The proceeds go to the Crippled Children’s Society, and sweets, ice cream and soft drinks have all been donated. Controlled entirely by the children, under the direction of Mr Chapman, the concert keeps going continuously. The high standard of the .acts and the young performers’ confidence on the stage reveal ’ how thoroughly they have been rehearsing. 'f
