FAREWELL SMOKO AT EDGECUMBE FOR MR KEN PHILLIPS
There was a large gathering, approximately 140, at the farewell smoko for .Mr K. Phillips held at the Central Theatre, Edgecumbe, recently. Mr T. Anderson, Edgecumbe, was in the chair, and things went with a good swing right from the “kick off.”
A good variety of . items had been provided to be enjoyed by all. Following were the entertainers: Messrs J. Murphy, Jones, C. Clark and Linsell, stories; Tony' Smith, monologues; Steffert, vocal solos; Maori Choir led by Mr Wi Kaipara, Taneatua Choir and" Committee Sing Song, accompanied by Mr Blake, violin, and Mr Steffert piano. Toasts: “The King”, proposed by Mr T. Anderson; “Ladies”, Mr J. Newdick, Messrs K. Civil and P. Steffert; “Cricket Association”, Mr A. Blake, Mr R. Patterson; “Football Club”, Mr Mayo, Mr C. Thompson; “Fishermen’s Association”, Mr G. Smith, Messrs T. Davis and P. Cole; “Hockey Association”, Mr L. Perkins, Mr K. Civil; “Railway”, Mr Barnes, Messrs Carter, Kane and Thompson; “Farmers”, Mr Buchanan, Mr J. Revell; “Timber Workers”, Mr P. Rouse, Mr T. Smith; Te Teko; “Guest of the Evening”, Mr T. Anderson, Mr Phillips; “Truck Owners and Drivers”, Mr R. Glen, Mr J. Stewart; “Workers and Stewards”, Mr Lord, Mr O. Laurie; “Artists”, Mr T. Macken, Mr T. Smith; “Chairman and Assistant (Mr K. Civil)”, Mr C. Thompson, Mr Anderson.
