REQUEST TO SEAL STATION ROAD AT TANEATUA

A deputation requesting the Whakatane County Council to tar seal Station Road, Taneatua, was received by the council at the monthly meeting on Tuesday. The deputation, which consisted of Messrs R. S. Ricketts and B. F. Grace, presented a petition signed by about 62 Taneatua residents. Outlining the reasons for their request, Mr Grace said that the road was used very extensively day and night, week-ends included. There was a continual dust nuisance, which was suffered by most of the town. In the summer it was very bad.

The council gave the deputation a sympathetic hearing but could do nothing in the present financial year. The request however, would be given every consideration but no promise could be given when the sealing might be done. ‘ Even if the work were approved shortage of - materials and plant, which had to be borrowed from the Whakatane Borough Council, might delay it considerably.
