Suffering terrible burns from which she died on Saturday, Mrs W. M. Hughes, of Tancatua, was admitted to the District Hospital at Whakatane on Friday. It is understood her injuries were inflicted by a quantity of sodium chlorate and kerosene which became ignited after she had put it in the bath. An inquest was opened before the District Coroner, Mr C. S. Armstrong on Saturday, and adjourned after evidence of identification had been taken.
