International Day At Edgecumbe Institute

Mrs Ferguson presided over a good attendance of members at the International Day meeting of the Edgecumbe Women’s Institute. Included in the business discussed was the arranging of the Children’s Christmas Party to be held on December 14. When a count was taken of the number of children who would be present it was found to total 100. Pretty birthday sprays were presented to several members whose birthdays are in November, and a bank book was presented to Baby Eileen Nowland. Mrs Stewart, of Whakatane, gave a most interesting and amusing talk on the sights and her impressions of the processional route of the Royal Wedding. Mrs Stewart also discussed the food position in England and gave some helpful advice about parcels for Link Institutes. There was & good display of home made Xmas gifts, which included crochet and knitting and soft toys. Parcels of soap were received to forward to England. Competition results:— Best flower: Mrs Black 1, Mrs Martin 2, Mrs Wilson 3. Bath mat: Mrs Martin 1. Mrs Magee 2. Xmas gift: Mrs Parsons 1, Mrs Wilson 2, Mrs Young 3. Vegetable: Mrs Magee 1. The newly-formed choir brought the meeting to a close by singing “Land of Hope and Glory.”
