Novelty Dance At Ohope

A large crowd spent a very pleasant evening on Saturday at the Novelty Dance held in the Captain’s Cabin, Ohope. -Music was supplied by Harrison’s Ballroom Orchestra for the popular and varied programme of old-time and modern dances.

A number of novelties were included the winners being: Monte Carlo, Mr and Mrs .Brown; Lucky partner Gay Gordons, Miss Wilson and Mr Quintal; Lucky Spot Foxtrot, Mr and Mrs Cox. Undoubtedly the highlight of the evening was the ballroom dancingexhibition by Mr Ken Hay and partner, who performed the intricate steps of the ‘Tango’ and Rhumba with perfect grace and rhythm. An added attraction was the Waltz competition judged by Mrs Gordon and Mrs Evington of Ohope. This was won by Mr Hay and partner, with Mr and Mrs F. Benseman as run-ners-up, and proved that the oldtime waltz is still a favourite with all good dancers. Thanks must go to'Mrs L. Coker for the capable catering and supervising of a really delicious supper. Mr H. Harrison proved a very capable M.C. for a most enjoyable evening, as a result of which the dance committee was able to hand over a welcome donation to Parcels for Britain fund. .
