WHAKATANE W.I. HAS “ IRISH DAY ”

Mrs Print presided over a very good attendance of members of the Whakatane Women’s Institute at the monthly meeting held in the Methodist Hall on. November 2. A welcome also was extended to visitors and new members. Overseas letters once again' told the Institute how much its parcels were appreciated. The monthly letter from the Federation President asked for delegates for compiling the programme for the Musical Festival at a meeting to be held on November 25. The report of the Bi-annual Council meeting of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Federation was read and several items discussed. At the'coming spring show of the Whakatane Beautifying Society on Friday, the garden circle will be responsible for the organisation’s Court space. It was resolved that Mrs K. Stewart be secretary for the Link letters. The A.C.C.W. “penny for kiddies” collection met with a very satisfactory response.- Mrs King Senr. was responsible for the items in the afternoon’s entertainment “Ireland.” Miss Lennie. Butler danced the Irish tap, Mrs K. Stewart gave a talk on her visit to Ireland. Mrs Burke sang a bracket of songs “Mother Machree” and “The Birds Go North Again” and the community singing of Irish songs completed a programme thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Mrs Crozier, a former president of the Whakatane W. 1., now residing "in, HelensVille, was asked to speak a few words. Sprays and birthday greetings were presented to members whose birthdays take place this month. Competitions:—. Ginger gems: Mrs Patterson Senr. 1, Mrs Dixon 2. Worked linen tray cloth: Mrs Hanham 1, Mrs Larsen 2. New potatoes: Mrs Hanham 1, Mrs Haultain 2.
