CERTAIN SIZES OF PIPING STILL IN SHORT SUPPLY

Because of the very short supply of certain sizes in- piping, the National Pig Industry Council Executive directed that investigation should be made into the matter to see what steps could be taken to remedy the position. • Accordingly a letter was sent to the firm who are the sole importers of galvanised pipe into. New Zealand and they stated that they were anxious to overcome the shortages and to assist the National Pig Industry Council wherever possible. Piping is coming to hand fairly steadily from both United Kingdom and Australian works. At the present time this firm is actually holding orders for very many thousands o* feet and a proportion of each shipment is distributed against these orders.

Following upon a second letter drawing attention to the fact th it the above statement did not meet the individual farmer’s need, the same firm of importers stated:— “Merchants receive supplies on the basis of their 1938 business and are entrusted, with the reasonable allocation of the inadequate supplies at present available. Farmers can best ensure supplies by budgeting ahead their requirements, placing a firm order with one or more merchants, and following up their order by persistent enquiry for delivery.” Mr D. S. vßoss, Chairman of the Bay of Plenty District Pig Council, at its meeting last week, said he regretted that nothing further could be done to obtain adequate supplies of piping but hoped that farmers needing piping would adopt the advice given.
