DISTRICT SPORTSMEN TO PROTEST AGAINST REDUCED TROUT LIMIT

At the monthly meeting of the Whakatane County Rod and Gun Club held last week considerable discussion took place over the reduction this season of the limit bag for trout to six. Members spoke vpry strongly on the subject, and it was decided to forward an emphatic protest to the Department of Internal Affairs against the reduction. -It was pointed out that in places like Taupo and Rotorua where • a | considerable amount of fishing takes •place every day in the week, the reduction of the limit bag may be justified; but in a district such as ' this where the majority of licenseholders could fish only in the weekends, it was a most unfair imposition. Members also were of the opinion that the Department should give more recognition to bodies like the Club by Consulting them in mattters affecting fishing and game. In this case the Club was unaware of any j contemplated action to reduce the j limit until it was' published in the j press, and thus had no opportunity of making representations on behalf ; of the fishermen of the district.
