Successful Garden Party At Edgecumbe
The garden party hold at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. Crang, Edgecumbe, was highly successful. The setting was absolutely perfect, spacious lawns, well trimmed flower beds and flowering shrubs giving the desired effect, while tall, thick hedgerows kept the rather boisterous wind at bay. It was most unfortunate that the Rt. Rev. N. A. Lesser- was indisposed, and unable to attend the garden party as arranged. However those present spent a most . enjoyable afternoon, and Mrs Crang and her band of helpers had a very busy time attending to the guests. Trifle and ice cream proved very popular with all, and the cherries, first of the season, looked most tempting reposing in* a silver basket. The bring and buy stall did a very brisk trade, and displayed a wide selection of goods. The Vicar, Rev. J. C. J. Wilson, tendered an apology on behalf of the Bishop. He also thanked Mr and Mrs Crang and Ted Crang for the use of their home, the work they had done in preparing for the afternoon, and also the guests for their attendance. The menfolk played a game of bowls and derive'd a great deal of enjoyment, while the women had a number of competitions, the winners of these being:— Hidden parcel, Mrs D. Thompson, Edgecumbe. Buried treasure, Mrs Wilson. Whskatane. Matching proverbs, Miss Doreen Marx, Edgecumbe.
