Ex-Servicemen In State Houses
A further 169 tenancies were allocated to ex-servicemen during September, under the system whereby at least half of all newly vacant or newly completed State rental units go to ex-servicemen of the recent war. This brought the total number of such allocations to 9158. Allocations are made on a basis of relative urgency by the rehabilitation housing committee in each centre.
The following shows allocations in the various districts, the figures for September being given in parentheses: Auckland-North Auckland 2649 (46), Waikato-Bay of Plenty 724 (22), Hawkes Bay-Poverty Bay 423 (8), Taranaki 269 (10), Wellington (including Wanganui, Manawatu, Wairarapa and Hutt Valley) 3177 (41), Nelson-Marlborough-Westland 230 (7), Canterbury Province 987 (15), Otago Province 500 (14), Southland 199 (6); total 9158 (169).
