CHAIN LETTERS
Sir, —I was rather amused to read the Beacon’s article about the chain letter which offers £25/10/- for a 2/- postal note. I, myself received such a letter a few days ago sent from Hawera, but mine was “Xmas Club, N.Z. Only” not Holiday Club. I worked it all out, maybe your correspondent has become dissatisfied a wee bit too soon. It would take quite a while for the four friends to whom he sent letters to send four letters each to four friends of- theirs and then for those 16 people to send four letters , each to four friends of theirs and then for those 64 people to send four letters each to four of their friends. By this time (as his name moves up one each time the 16 people and then the 64 people and then the 250 people send a letter out) his name and address is at the top of 250 letters and he is due to receive 2/each from 250 people—£2s/10/surely he will receive some 2/- postal notes. He cannot possibly be the only sport in New Zealand. I did not send mine out. I thought my friends had quite enough to do without writing four silly letters. Yours etc., , * NOT A SPORT.
