TRAGEDY AVERTED
Narrow Escape For Little Girl
The car was cruising * along the street slowly. Suddenly from the left a small girl darted onto the road from behind the back of a parked motor truck. There was a horrified shout from somewhere drowned suddenly in the scream of hurriedly applied brakes. Then silence.
The little girl looked round and then quickly took her hand from the radiator of the car. Ic had stopped just six inches in time, with the front coming to rest, against the child's outstretched hand. It almost looked as if. she had stopped it. But she hadn't. Only good brakes and the alertness of the driver saved this little girl from a certain early grave. That incident actually happened at Kopeopeo recently. As described, the little girl would not have sto:<J a chance if the driver had not been awake, Like many children, the girl had been playing on the street. Without even bothering to see if the road was clear she had run out and had been lucky. If the car had been travelling any faster then the result would have been \evy different. It is useless after accidents !<* talk about what might have been, 'if' But often there is / no second chance. It is easier to educate a child.
