Caledonian Society's Successful Year

Neither the chief nor the secretary sought re-election at the annual meeting of the Whakatane District Caledonian Society on Tuesday night. As a result, although the position of chief was filled, that of secretai'y was left over until a later meeting. Although the activities of the society were restricted by the poliomyelitis outbreak during the earlier part of the year, interest in all departments had flourished, said the chief, Mr D. Anderson, presenting his annual report. At present the future of the society looked very bright. A substantial profit over last year’s balance was shown in the accounts presented by the secretary, Mr W. Hurst. Officers elected were;—•

Patron, Mr T. Grant; chief, Mr W. J. S’mons; treasurer, Mr H. Morgan; chieftains, Messrs. D. Anderson and W. Abbott; pipe-major, Mr S. McMillan; executive committee, Messrs T. H. Ferguson, A. Robb, Mesdames J. King Jnr.. T. Dockray, A. Bell; band committee, Messrs Ferguson, J. Middlemiss, Robb; social committee, Mesdames S. McMillan, A. Mortensen, A. Robb. P. Lvnds, Messrs A. Mortensen, J. Anderson; chaplain, Rev, R. T. Dodds.
