Danger Of Loose Gravel On Graded Roads Pointed Out

The Grand Jury wished to draw attention to the dangerous practice, of borough and county councils of leaving a high ridge of metal on roads after grading, said Mr T. P. Hart, foreman, in the Supreme Court at Palmerston North in returning a “no bill” on a charge of negligent driving causing death. The jury considered that, the practice should be discontinued, he added. The accused was Terence Matthew Moynihan, labourer, of Pongaroa. The charge resulted from an accident on the Pongaroa-Akito Road on September 2 when a lorry left the road and plunged over a bank into the. Pongaroa River. One of the passengers in the truck, Henry Colston Heath, was drowned in the cab.
