Edgecumbe Women’s Institute’s Annual Garden Party
A beautiful spring day favoured the Edgecumbe Women’s Institute for the annual Garden Party at the home of Mrs D. . Spence. Bright frocks and gay cellophane hats added to the charm of the lovely garden.
Mrs Fergusson presided over a large attendance of members and friends.
Several members were presented • with birthday posies and good wishes.. Mrs Spiers proposed a vote -of thanks to all who had /helped with work at the recent Show, and ' Mrs Woollett spoke of the work done at the Federation bi-annual meeting. Mrs LeLievre gave a most interbesting talk about the Investiture -ceremony at Tauranga which she had attended. In her talk she spoke of the amusement caused by the nervousness of some of the recipients who were receiving awards for bravery. A parade of cellophane hats worn by the makers at a recent demon--stration day, was enjoyed by all, and was won by Mrs Young with ;a' smart navy model. The Ladder Golf game was keenly contested and was won by Mrs Speirs. Mrs J. Carter won the pingpong ball game. Miss Kennard won the iced cake and box of homemade sweets and Miss Cornish was the winner of the dinner. The best flower competition was won by Mrs Teesdale 1, Mrs Tunnicliffe 2, Mrs Martin 3. The roll call was a “Plant for the •stall” and quite a large number of plants changed gardens. A happy afternoon was brought to a close with a sincere vote of Thanks to Mrs Spence for the use .of her home.
