Waimana Gardening Circle
The Waimana-Nukuhou Women’s Institute gardening circle meeting for October, was held at Mrs ‘J. Mitchell’s home, Waimana, last Wednesday afternoon. Weather was not the best, but a good number of members were present. Mrs Wylde presidedMrs Hewitt gave interesting readings on roses and dahlias, and Mrs J, Mitchell also told members how a compost heap was made at different shows in England, so gardeners could see the correct way of doing it.
A competition, drawing an Arum lily in a vase, was won by Mrs Wylde, with Mrs M. King second. The day’s competitions were judged by Mrs Forde Mitchell and Mrs S. Eagle. .Results were:—
Best flower: Mrs Wylde 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs J. Mitchell 3. Vegetable: Mrs Wylde 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs J. Mitchell 3. Coat spray: Mrs M. King 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs J. Mitchell 3. Afternoon tea was served and members viewed the pretty and well kept garden, after which Mrs Wylde thanked Mrs Mitchell for the pleasant afternoon and also the judges and hostesses.
