Bear Tastes Good
One hundred members of the cast and crew of Eagle-Lion’s Cinecolour production, “Red Stallion,” heartwarming and poignant story of a boy’s devotion to a horse, got their introduction to bear meat while the company was on location filming outdoor colour shots in the magnificent Mount Shasta country of northern California..
Bear steak, plentiful as a result of the nine bears shot by various members of the company, was served at dinner one night, and was prepared by Jane Darwell, featured player in the cast, and Rennie Renfre, trainer and owner of Daisy, the famous movie, pup. For many ©f the company, including Robert Paige, Ted Donaldson and Noreen Nash, the leading players, this was their introduction to bear meat. After a rather cautious samping of the new food, most of the company attacked the remainder of the meat with gusto.
