FATHER’S CHOICE
In modern New. Zealand the Plunket Nurse plays a big part in most babies’ lives. Her advice is keenly sought and freely given, and the value of the service is widely recognised. Now comes a chancel for local citizens, particularly fathers whose wives and children have shared the benefits.- to give that recognition a practical turn. The work in the Whakatane district has developed to the point where it is a full-time job for two nurses, but is suffering a little just now because there is no means of transport for the second nurse. Naturally, that makes it a lot harder to get through an exacting round of calls. A Government subsidy has been promised for the purchase of a car, and a suitable vehicle is now available, so the Society is appealing to the public to make its purchase possible by the end of this month. Altogether, £432 has to be found, and the Whakatane Borough’s share is £l5O. Country sub-branches of the Society are to collect the rest in their various areas. Canvassers will be on the job in Whakatane on Thursday morning, with instructions to concentrate on those who have had direct benefit from the Plun-
ket service, but to give everyone the opportunity to subscribe. The canvass ,will probably be completed by the end of the month, so residents can expect a call between now and then.
