October Meeting Of Taneatua W.I.

The October meeting of the Taneatua Women’s Institute saw a very large attendance, presided over by Mrs Grey. Routine business was conducted and one new member, Mrs Baikie, was welcomed. Remits for the bi-annual Council meeting were discussed ahd the. delegates, Mrs Bennett and Mrs K. Tebbutt, instructed as to the wishes of the Institute.Arrangements for the birthday party to be held in November were made. Members promised help for the concert to be held tomorrow. It is in aid of the community centre to be built as a War Memorial. The usual donation was. granted for the Leper appeal. Members also responded to the appeal from Rotorua for donations to a fund for food parcels to be presented to Princess Margaret when she visits Rotorua next year. Everyone present answered the roll call “Why I joined the Institute.” The majority agreed that to join an Institute was the best possible way of meeting, people and making new friends. An amusing reading was given by Mrs Bennett. jrhe demonstration given by Mrs Frost on the making of a bouquet without wires. was very much appreciated by members and the result was charming. The elephants torn from a sheet of paper as a competition had to be seen to be believed. Mrs Olliver was the winner. A very delightful afternoon culminated in a musical mime “The Elopement.” This was presented by Mrs McDonald, Mrs T. Anderson, Mrs Gardner and Mrs K. Tebbutt and was most enthusiastically received. Mrs Butler and Mrs P. Anderson judged the competitions as follows: Best flower: Mrs Bennett 1, Mrs Grey 2, Mrs 3. Embroidered tray cloth: Mrs McGougan 1, Mrs Merrie 2, Mrs Olliver 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Allen 1, Mrs. Grey 2, Mrs McDonald 3.
