Bridge Question To Be Taken Up With Minister

First follow-up of the bridge ques- • lion introduced at this month’s meeting of the Harbdur Board by Mr H. ■G. Warren, comes from the Whakatane. Borough Council. It decided on 'Monday night to make representations to the Minister of Works, Mr Semple, calling his attention to the :fact that the bridge giving access to the main highways to Tauranga and Rotorua is falling into decay and urging that he do something •about it.

Mr Semple has already told the ‘■Council that he can’t do anything about it just yet, but it is felt here -that he does not quite realise the urgency of the matter. Therefore, the Council’s letter is going to point out to him the im■portance of the bridge and the .alarming extent of its dilapidation. It will be urged that a new bridge be erected as soon as possible, and ■suggested that, when that is done, it should be as near as practicable -to the Board Mills, to give Mill employees a better chance to “enjoy "the amenities of the Borough.” It is also to be suggested to Mr "Semple that the Highway from the bridge to Paroa school should be tar-sealed.
