Plunket Committee Formed At Galatea
About 36 members and several visitors attended the October meeting of the Galatea Women’s Institute. A special effort was made to raise funds for a Xmas tree, and a sales table, yielded approximately £l2 and competition entries £2. Brisk business was done by the two stall holders, Mesdames Yager and Cawte. The large variety of sewing, vegetables, preserves, cakes, flowers, and sweets was sold out. The president, Mrs Taylor, thanked all who had helped. The competition was won by Mrs L. Goodhue, and the “rolling shilling” by Mrs Fred Rogers. The cups, saucers and plates, in the Horticulture Society’s contest were won by Mrs J. Lee. Chief business of the afternoon was the discussion on holding a baby clinic at the camp, fortnightly, by the district nurse stationed at Murupara. At present she visits the babies at their homes and, as she has a very large district to cover, is seeking the co-operation of mothr ers to save her a considerable amount of travelling. Those present were in favour of the idea and went a step further and formed a Plunket Society Committee, Mesdames J. Young,, L, Rowson and I. McDonald being appointed. The afternoon closed with a very dainty afternoons tea, served by Mesdames J. Simpson, Allen, Cavte and A. Judd. ,
