EXTENSION OF RURAL MAIL DELIVERIES
Opouriao Valley ‘ & Taneatua Areas Advice has been received from the Postmaster-General’s' Office that arrangements have now been finalised for the Whaka-tane-Thornton Rural Mail delivery to be extended to serve the settlers in the Opouriao Valley and Taneatua areas. . Some of the settlers desired the delivery to commence from Taneatua, whilst others sought service from Whakatane. Inquiries made and tenders, received indicated that an extension, of the existing service was the best means of providing the area with rural delivery facilities, and, accordingly, a tender for such service has been accepted. Under the arrangement authorised, the majority of the settlers will be able to obtain goods from either Whakatane or Taneatua. The extended service will be commenced as soon as the required number of settlers have paid the rural delivery fee and erected the necessary boxes.
